 News Wrap-Up from RFID Journal LIVE 2008, Part 2 of 2

 Our second day of coverage from the RFID Journal LIVE! 2008 event in Las Vegas includes a number of major contract announcements, in addition to more product and partnership news. See yesterday's Part 1 for more announcements.- Microsoft has unveiled its new BizTalk RFID Mobile platform, which the company says will simplify the development of mobile applications. Used in conjunction with BizTalk Server 2006 R2, the system can extend business processes to Windows CE and Windows Mobile 5.0 applications. The company released a beta version of the platform, with general availability expected late in 2008. Customers and partners can also register to participate in the BizTalk RFID Mobile Technology Adoption Program. More information here.
- RFID Global Solution is implementing an RFID-based asset tracking system for Boeing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Boeing is using active RFID technology and RFID Global Solution's GlobalView software suite to track equipment and tools within several facilities and mobile vehicles. Read the announcement here.
- The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has awarded an RFID baggage handling contract to RFID label producer George Schmitt & Co., who will use Alien Technology's Squiggle tags for the application. See the release here.
- ODIN technologies has released its EasyMonitor software as a service (SaaS) offering, which fully automates RFID monitoring, performance optimization, and infrastructure maintenance. The system provides centralized management of an RFID reader infrastructure, allowing customers to easily configure and maintain their networks. Read the release.
- Xterprise has entered into a strategic partnership with Mojix to become the launch partner and first independent software vendor offering applications that leverage the Mojix STAR system. By integrating the STAR system with its own Clarity suite of applications, Xterprise hopes to expand its yard management, dock door, and inventory management offerings. See the release here.
- The Rompetrol Group, a multinational oil company, has deployed a fuel distribution monitoring system from Hi-G-Tek in Romania and Bulgaria. The system uses wireless remote sensors and active RFID technology to track and monitor fuel inventory, deliveries, and assets in Rompetrol's secondary distribution chain. See the announcement here.
- Motorola's Enterprise Mobility business has announced the new Motorola XR450, a fixed RFID reader with both bi- and mono-static antenna ports on a single platform. The device lets customers select between using four bi-static ports that require dual antennas, or four mono-static ports that require only one antenna. This flexibility allows users to leverage the same reader for both item-level tracking and supply chain applications. See the full announcement here.
- Retail giant METRO Group is deploying Sirit's INfinity 510 UHF RFID reader and Reva Systems' TAP 331 appliance as part of an expanded deployment at the company's Real brand hypermarkets. The 200 Real locations will be equipped with RFID portals from Checkpoint Systems that are powered by Sirit's readers to track incoming pallets and cases of merchandise. Reva's RFID network infrastructure will provide device management and data processing. The first announcement is here, and the second here.
- Omnitrol Networks announced a series of strategic partnerships to expand the use of its RFID products. Omnitrol has embedded IBM's WebSphere RFID Information Center software into the Omnitrol Work-in-Process (WIP) appliance to create an EPC-based tracking solution for manufacturing and logistics applications. Integrator RFID Global Solution has teamed with the company to design and implement RFID solutions based on Omnitrol's global track and trace appliance. The company has partnered with Time Domain to combine its WIP Visibility solution with Time Domain's ultra-wideband (UWB) real-time location system (RTLS) for aerospace and defense applications. Omnitrol has entered into a similar arrangement with Croop-LaFrance to deliver aerospace and defense solutions. - ThingMagic and InnerWireless have formed a strategic partnership to develop and market standards-based active and passive RFID systems. The solutions will combine ThingMagic's MercuryOS software and Mercury RFID readers with the InnerWireless PanGo product line for asset tracking applications that require a mix of active RTLS technology, passive RFID, and WiFi devices. - Lexmark International's new RFID UHF Laser Option is an add-on for the company's T640, T652, and T644 monochrome laser printers. The system includes a radio and antenna that programs and verifies RFID media, and provides an affordable way for customers to add RFID capabilities to their existing printer infrastructure. - Wavetrend Technologies has received validation for IBM's WebSphere RFID Premises Server 6.1, signifying that the company's active RFID products have demonstrated seamless interoperability with the IBM platform. Wavetrend has also developed software device kits for three RFID readers (RX300, RX900, and RX1000) that interface with Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2. - NCR has integrated its NCR TransitionWorks for RFID and Mobility software with the Oracle E-Business Suite. The integration enables real-time capture and monitoring of inventory for supply chain and manufacturing processes. See the announcement here.
- SATO America is continuing the deployment and integration of the Microsoft BizTalk 2006 R2 platform within its iTRAK software application suite. BizTalk 2006 R2 provides iTRAK with real-time visibility to manage and control reusable assets, and to associate personnel with equipment. More information here.
- Savi has launched SmartChain 5.0, an upgrade of its RFID platform and application suite. The system leverages services oriented architecture (SOA) to provide a framework for integrating real-time data from a variety of wireless technologies into enterprise software systems. - Psion Teklogix has formed a partnership with AeroScout to develop automated real-time asset management solutions that integrate AeroScout's WiFi-based active RFID tags and MobileView software with Psion Teklogix mobile computers. The companies will target inventory tracking and yard management applications. Read the announcement here.
- Blue Vector Systems has introduced the Blue Vector Serialization Station. The new product is a convenient station for scanning serial numbers of pallets, cases, totes, and items in the pharmaceutical supply chain, and can automatically transmit the status of each item to central pedigree systems and outside billing agencies. The Station is available in tabletop, conveyor, small footprint, and mobile cart form factors, and supports both bar codes (linear and two-dimensional) and RFID (HF and UHF). See the release here.
- Lowry Computer Products announced that the company now has more than 200 RFID clients in its roster of customers. Companies utilizing Lowry-supplied RFID solutions include Dow Corning, Procter & Gamble, and Landoll. See the release here.
